Anyway, this is Suzy. She is an American Water Spaniel around 1 - 2 years old and is in the care of Jackson County Humane Society in Maquoketa, IA. She is a little shy but I bet with some time and patience, she will come around.
I truly believe that all Dogs Deserve Freedom. That means that every dog has the right to be free and in order to make this happen, all dog owners have the responsibility to properly prepare, train and educate their dogs to give them that freedom.

Featured Rescue - the American Water Spaniel
Today's Featured Rescue is inspired by our Guess The Breed post on Friday. For those of you who were interested, the answer was the American Water Spaniel. Do you know how long it took me to find a picture of one of these guys that was NOT either a puppy picture or a hunting picture with either a gun or dead duck? WOW.

I just can't fathom, for the life of me, how a dog like that ends up in a shelter. OK, I can't fathom how any dog ends up in a shelter...
Speaking of curly-coated hunters...why not take the poodle back to its roots and call it something like the German Water Dog? These dogs need to be recognized as what they are: real sporting dogs that need to be removed POST HASTE from the non-sporting group and clipped to look like real dogs! We have the Irish Water Spaniel, Portuguese Water Dog, American Water Spaniel...they all look and are shown as real dogs...
Seeing that little dog just reminded me of that topic...poor gal, hope she finds a home that is willing to bring out her best, whether it's as a pet or as a hunter! What a cute face. Despite her shyness, you can see that tail going a mile a minute in the picture!
