Platform Beds vs. Fold Away Beds

I've always wanted one of those beds that fold away into the wall. You know, like the one from the 5th Element movie (where Korban hides Vito Corniellious, the priest). The contemporary platform beds remind me of them. Granted - they look much more comfortable than the one from the movie and I don't think they actually fold into the wall but that's the first thought I had when I looked at the pictures. Do you see the similarities?

Anyway, that site has all sorts of bedroom furniture available but after searching through the pages, I still couldn't find my fold away platform bed. I looked at some of the different styles though and they really are quite nice.

Wow it's been a while since I've written one of these ... how did we do? Have you ever thought about owning one of these types of beds? Would you ever buy one for your home?

I've known them as Murphy beds - they fold up into a cupboard on the wall to save space; can be quite nice and yes, I have wanted one, too. Good luck on your hunt.

If the dog sleeps outside, there are raised platform dog beds as well as pad dog beds. The raised platform style of small dog bed are as tall as 3" off the ground which allows for most small dogs to easily get into the bed. Heated pads can be added to these beds to help keep the small dog warm in cooler climates.

A lot of Murphy Beds can end up looking like a platform bed, since they only have so much room to house the mattress within the wall space, creating a lower profile. That, and the legs usually end up folding down into the bottom of the frame when stored so they don't protrude out into a room. This leaves open space under the foam mattress when lowered, so yes, I can definitely see the similarities!
