Black Dog Rescue - Dude the Kelpie mix

A lot of the shelters have begun using a colour system to make it easier for potential adopters to identify dogs (and for the shelter workers to put them all into their convenient little boxes). I think it is a good idea because let's face it - most dogs won't show their "true colours" in the viewing area.

Today's Featured rescue is Dude the Kelpie mix (I'm not a fan of the name, but when you see the volume that some of these places do, you use what comes). Dude is listed as 1 year, 8 months old. His profile is written in classic "colour system" style ... GO-GETTER (GREEN): Want to get more exercise? Action is my middle name. My "Let's GO!" lifestyle will keep you motivated to get outside and move. I've got tons of energy, and just like the sun, I'm burning and working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I'll run for miles, chase a ball for hours, and still want to play at the end of the day.

Dude is currently residing at the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA. I hope he's not going crazy in there ... I was going to pull him but there's another I've committed to first.

A kelpie? Seriously? I just don't understand how a dog like that (or any dog, for that matter) ends up in a shelter. Um, yeah I do...ignorance... dang! I love his listing. I hope he's not in the shelter for long.

GoLightly ...

"My breeder was all surprised to see one in a shelter." Good grief, they are often in shelters but most have no idea what they are looking at. The other question is ... do they normally pass the "SAFER" test? And if they don't, are they in a facility that will PTS or work with their problems??

A friend of mine has a Kelpie with a broken toe ... she has to keep him on "crate rest" for two weeks ... YIKES!

giantspeckledchihuahua ...

Ignorance sure plays a big part. He's been in for 6 weeks so far.

Dude is still at the HBSPCA in Hamilton, Ontario. He's been at the shelter the longest of any dog now. In October, 2010, he will have been there for one year. He doesnt like cats. He loves people and desperately needs a home, someone to love him.

He's also the Dog of the month. His adoption fee is only 150. Please someone save him before it's too late :(
