Featured Rescue - Dozer the Boxer

Today's Featured Rescue is inspired by the recent events in Brampton. Dozer is a handsome 3 year old Boxer. Dozer is going to be a challenge to anyone who adopts him but he will probably turn out to be a great dog. He's aloof to the animals he lives with which means he either doesn't like them or doesn't have much use for them (my bet would be that he doesn't like them! Believe it or not, your dog won't necessarily like every other dog they meet).
He's reactive to other animals "and anything that moves". That means he probably lunges, barks and snarls at these things. Most of the time, when rescues use the word "reactive" it means the dog has aggressive tendencies that can be resolved in time with training. They don't like to use the word "aggressive" because it turns people off.
Dozer is currently being cared for by Boxer Rescue Ontario so if you're interested, please contact them for an adoption application.

Dozer is beautiful! I think ALL boxer's are challenging. Anytime you have an intelligent dog combined with high energy it's going to be a challenge.

Many times reactive dogs are fearful rather than aggressive. Slowly socializing and carefully desensitizing the dog can bring the dog around to a managable point.

What a hansom fellow! The boxer that I knew was a wonderfully laid back and friendly guy, but I can see where a boxer in a bad living situation could end up with problems. (Plus their size and looks make the slightest misbehavior seem quite threatening.) I hope someone knowledgeable gets this guy and straightens him out - they can really be fabulous family dogs.

He is very handsome and I hope that he finds a forever home with a patient owner that can handle him...maybe he just needs a bit of TLC...

dozer is a beautiful boxer!!! I have a boxer of my own, Roxy. She is a mix though, just looks like a small boxer. I hope he finds a home. Every animal deserves a second chance.

So true. It's so easy to over-react in kind.

Good luck, Dozer!

Dogs deserve freedom. You're correct there. But is putting a leash on a dog considered a violation of that freedom? What if the dog needs it to control aggression?

My pet dog is a shih-tzu, which is relatively tamed. But reading thru an article on dog leash, I just got an impression that it's a must have to ensure dog obedience. Is this always the case even for the most tamed dog like the shih-tzu?

I have a few questions on dog leash and dog freedom. Hope you could enlighten me on this. I have a complete list of the questions. You may link thru this...Petdogs-Manila: Is a Leash a Must Have Even for Shih-tzu Dogs?

What an amazing looking animal - so sturdy and regal! I hope that Dozer finds a loving family and has years and years of good living ahead of him.

giantspeckledchihuahua ... Yes, many times they are fearful or have not learned a "socially acceptable way" to greet other dogs. The majority of dog owners out there don't understand this though.

impotenta ... I will try to promote it better in the next few months now that I have more time.

JM Mendoza ... you post some interesting queries. Please check out some of the threads I've written under the "Dogs Deserve Freedom" topic (which can be found on the right hand side of my blog's main page). I will go over to your blog and comment further regarding the leash there.

Healthy Cafe ... If I had to go on record for my opinion on that I'd say "most likely not". Keeping in mind that every dog is a DOG and has the capability of causing harm (from the little Chihuahua to the massive Mastiffs).

FishHawk ... thank you!

bbes tribe, Melissa, bermudabluez, Puplover, GoLightly, Ninja Media, high flyer, Bizvertise, Dog Signs, Traveler Club thank you for your comments. I hope he gets adopted soon.

GoLightly ... I try to keep in mind that people like to be acknowledged when they post a comment -- :) Now that I'm back on the blog-wagon, I will try to respond to each one again.
