I haven't had a Boston Terrier featured yet on this blog so I thought today was the day! Meet Winston. He seems to have a lot going for him ... unfortunately the rescue is limiting the adoption area to a radius of 65 miles of Sharpsville, PA. This eliminates so many potential adopters ... Don't they want to find him the right home? What if that home is 70 miles away??I normally wouldn't post the dog if there are restrictions like that but I wanted to bring up this topic. If you are looking to find a home for the animals in your care, why would you put forth a stipulation like that? What is the benefit? If he's adopted, wouldn't that mean that you could take another dog into your organization?

AHHHHH!!! There's nothing I love more than a beagle than a boston (which my Ziggy is half and half of each!). He's too cute! I really hope he finds a great home.
I never understood the adoption restrictions like that. Is it so they can gocheck out the potential new home or to ensure that they can "keep tabs" on the people and dog? I sure hope little Winston finds a loving home within the restrictions.
While I understand wanting to have geographic limits, it does rule out nice homes.
Golden Gate Lab Rescue last year refused to let me meet (and I am sure go home with) a 12 year old male. I lived out of their area, although they have a representative in Reno, so how far out of their area can I possibly be? I came with references from the founder of that Rescue organization, too. I will never understand that.
Most of the time when I see the geographic limitations used it's because the rescue organization does home visits and it's difficult to get volunteers to go do home visits that are really far away. I'm in Michigan, and there are a few rescues around here that do that. So I can see that. However, it might be a solution to team up with another rescue organization in the adopter's area and ask them to do a home check for them.
And on a side note, he is adorable! I got a Boston about two and a half years ago, and I can now say that I will never live without one! I hope someone gives this guy a great home.

Boston's are one of my favorite big-little dogs...tons of heart and comedians to the nth degree. Good luck Wintson!!!

I think it's foolishness. People that are lovers of the breed will travel to get one. I have a Boston I'm fostering now and though he doesn't have any geographic limitations on him the president will be very picky about who she places him with.
Through twists of fate I've had Fosters come here from all over, though usually just in VA...I'm in VA and actually fostered one who came from SC, was registered with a group out of AL with ties in NC and was adopted to DE.
The Boxer group I focus on did the home visit for them and that's how I joined thier ranks...They had 2 week old pups they needed to find a foster for who hadn't had parvo in the house!

That is strange to post 65 miles. What is the point? He looks like alot of fun... hope he can find his forever PA home.

"Keep tabs" ... yeah that might be what they are doing. It would make sense.

I agree. Many nice homes are overlooked because of this. Rescues are always saying that senior guys are more difficult to re-home so that would make you assume they should be more likely to let you meet him than less.

Thanks for dropping by! I wish every organization would look at it that way. So many times you find that they aren't all about working together so much as trying to make a buck. It is disheartening. Aren't we all supposed to be working towards the same goal??
