Guess the Breed #3

Ok folks ... cue the irritating and corny music! Time for another round of Guess the Breed!

This is a purebred dog. The picture I pulled from a breeder's website ... I'll let you know where if you guess correctly!

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with this breed ... I hope it's a mind-boggler!

Do you know it? Guess the Breed ...

Please remember the Golden Rules to these posts ...

Belgian Tervuren, an awesome, high energy and very intelligent breed of dog!

Nope ... keep guessing :)

Euhm...It looks just like my neighbor's pure breed long haired German Sheppard?!

I'm going to say Belgian Shepherd, even though a tervuren IS a Belgian Shepherd

I agree with GSC--Belgian Shepherd.

I've seen Keeshonds come into the shelter with coats like this, but the head is too long. Since we can't see the tail carriage, it makes things trickier.

On first glance I thought, duh, Tervuren but then I noticed it has a black saddle. It's ears are kind of large for a Terv (they tend to be nice neat triangles) and it's head looks a little heavy. I'm guessing a long haired GSD.

It is a long-haired GSD!

I'm going to guess a German Shepard.

I'm thinking GSD. He is a pretty baby. I don't know this breed on sight.

Looks like a plush coated GSD to me, but could be a Shiloh Shepherd.

Shepherd :)

shiloh shepherd, one of the first designer dogs...take the unaccepted characteristics of a German shepherd (both European and American) breed for just for those and you have your first designer dog and your own registry to boot (ISSR)... what's her face began a breeding program in the late 70's breeding oversized long, softcoated shepherds.

oops... I didn't mean to get all ranty... these dogs have some serious health issues!!!

Is it a plush Shiloh shepherd (I'm under the impression that they come in "plush" and "smooth")? I did think about the long-haired GSD, but since it's not a separate breed by itself (and EVERYONE knows a GSD), it might not be that.

I took another look, but I can't see how this could be the Tervuren...the face doesn't have that streamlined look to it. It looks more blocky. If it is, then it's a Tervuren I've never seen before!

Great guesses everyone.

The breed is German Shepherd Dog. The pictured dog has Sable colouring with a long coat.

The picture can be found on Whispawillow Kennels.

I chose this breed because it is one I see go through rescue so often. Far too many backyard breeders out there. It is also a breed that many people know in the classic Black and Tan colourings/coat markings so I thought this would be a fun exercise in observation.

I deliberately chose a picture that did not show the classic stance of the GSD or the tail carriage as those would be a dead giveaway. However, if you look closely, the saddle and facial structure are typical for the breed.

ChrisJ was first to guess correctly.

Ha!!! you threw us off track by the comment, "
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with this breed ..."

Now we'll be watching for tricky hints...

well done, DDF!!!

Well I'd like to claim my prize (there is a prize isn't there? ;-)) but I think Freshwater Fish beat me by at least an hour (or did FF get a penalty for misspelling "Shepherd"? My you're a tough judge.).

Oh! You're right! I retract that statement ...

Sorry Freshwater Fish - you had it right first!

Spelling does not count :)

ChrisJ ... I will likely post an entry in my monthly followup that has a link to the person's blog or website. Share a little link-love.
